Our Rich History

One of many visits to the Llangollen Eisteddfod. This was in 2011.

The choir was established in 1922 at Slaithwaite, west of Huddersfield, and was immediately successful in recruiting local men, keen to make music, to perform on stage and to test their mettle in competition.

No Choir has a better record of prize-winning at Llangollen than Colne Valley Male Voice Choir.

Out of a total of six conductors just three have accounted for all but five years of its existence. With this stability, the choir has concentrated on what it is good at, using its power and versatility to excite audiences young and old.

100 + years of singing

In 2022, on May 8th, we celebrated our Centenary Year. Yes, we've been singing for over 100 years. Quite an achievement! We held landmark concerts and many special events to celebrate our 'Glorious Heritage' and we are well into realising big plans for our 'Fabulous Future'.

One of our most successful ventures has been Let All Men Sing. This is a community initiative for men that sing and men who have always wanted to give it a try, to come together and sing as a group. The programme ran for the fourth time in 2026. It has done so much to rejuvenate the Choir after damage done during the Pandemic. We are now stronger than ever.

Why not come along and join in?

The choir welcomes new members of all ages. Don't worry if you are not a trained music-reader or have not sung since school days! So if you are a tenor, a baritone or a bass, we would be very happy to see you.

Monday nights, 7.30 to 9.30pm

Linthwaite Methodist Church, Stones Lane, Linthwaite, HD7 5PD. Just drop by, listen or sing in as one of 60+ enthusiasts.

"I wondered what to expect but I never thought it would be such a friendly outfit, as pleasant as it is rewarding."
